SCJP5.0 java.text. package

One of the exam objectives for JCJP 5.0 is:

"Use standard J2SE APIs in the java.text package to correctly format or parse dates, numbers, and currency values for a specific locale; and, given a scenario, determine the appropriate methods to use if you want to use the default locale or a specific locale. Describe the purpose and use of the java.util.Locale class."

Does any one know what specific classes in the java.text package do we need to know for this exam? All other exam objectives clearly enlist what classes we should know, but not for this objective, and there are more than two dozen classes in this package. I guess I should focus on those classes concerning only formatting and parsing dates, numbers, and currency. Yet I would appreciate if any one has some insights.

Mmmmh, I think there are a few other exceptions. For example the first line of objective 6.5 does not tell you which class is used here - you're expected to be able to figure that out from what the objective says. Don't assume that you only need classes which are explicitly named.

but not for this objective, and there are more than two dozen classes in this package. I guess I should focus on those classes concerning only formatting and parsing dates, numbers, and currency.

Yup.

I would focus on the Format and xFormat classes. (x being Date, Number, etc.)

I took the exam today. The only questions (about 2 or 3) in this regard had to do with NumberFormat, DateFormat (both parsing and formatting) and using Locales.

Thanks for the advice.
