Hi, I took the the SCJP in dec'02 for the 1.2 version and it expired in dec'04. Now I want to renew my SCJP. Can I directly go for the SCJP 1.4 upgrade test(CX-310-036) OR do I need to take the regular SCJP 1.4 test(CX-310-035)?

Certifications no longer expire. Sun changed all that a year or so ago. You are SCJP 1.2 for ever You do not need to upgrade to 1.4 or 1.5 if you do not want to, and you can move on to further certifications with your SCJP 1.2 certification. If you wish, you can contact Sun and get a new proof of certification which has no expiry date.
If a Sun certified professional has already received a certificate and ID card with the printed expiration date, can that professional request another certificate and ID card without an expiration date?
Yes. The certified professional will need to send an email to the who2contact@sun.com alias to request a new certificate and ID card. Include your name and Prometric Candidate ID number.
