You are right, there is currently no book for SCJP Tiger.

You can use:
1. Core Java Volume I & II 7th edition
2. Java2 Complete Reference J2SE 5.0 edition

Or you can wait for:
1. K&B SCJP book Tiger edition

Or you can use the excellent SCJP Tiger Study Notes prepared by MZ

Head First Java Second Edition has been released. While it is not a SCJP specific book, it does cover a lot of the new sections in the 5.0 exam. And besides it is a definite read for anyone.

When is the K&B SCJP book Tiger edition due out in the bookstores?

No news right now, however, it should be round the corner.

It might be released within 1/2 year after SCJP Tiger has been launched.

I believe it's going to be out on May 31st.

If you pick this day from some online bookstore, it might not be accurate as sometimes, books are delay, and the expected release day might be delay as well.

Check with the authors or the publishers, you will have a better date.

The book should be available in B&N on May 31st. You can actually pre order it. If what Nick says is true, then maybe Kathy needs to be contacted.

I used this book for SCJP 1.2.

It was quite good at that moment, however, I loved K&B when I prepared for SCJP 1.4.

So, I still recommend K&B for SCJP Tiger.

By the way, your name violates the Naming Policy, please change it at Your Profile.

Thanks Nick,

I have 1.4 K&B. Just wondering following it & following tiger tutorial prepared by MZ would be enough to pass the new exam since most of the topics are covered by 1.4 K&B

Nalika
P.S.
Thanks for pointing out about naming policy

The link to the Roberts and Heller book is the version aimed at the JDK 1.4 exam. Do not believe what you read about release dates on web sites. I suspect the authors will be very keen to publicise the real availability of these books (I know I would).

If you are looking for a pass, using K&B together with MZ's notes will be ok.

If you are looking for a higher score, say 90+, you might need to read some more books, like Core Java, Complete Reference, etc. If you are interested, you might also read JLS.

I am not sure about the availablity, however, the table of content actually shows that the book is for SCJP Tiger, as I can find topics like Generics, autoboxing, etc.

Anyway, it is easy to check whether it is released from the publisher's website.
