Hello Friends,
I am planning to write SCJP 5.0 by the end of August. First problem , I am facing is the books' selection for SCJP 5.0. I have shortlisted following material:

1. Head First Java (covering J2SE 5.0)
2. Complete Java 2 Certification Guide (for SCJP 5.0)
3. K&B 1.4 (as I dont think K&B for 5.0 will be out anytime soon)
4. Khalid Mughal's Book (again for 1.4)
5. SCJP 5.0 Study Guide available on JavaRanch

I would like to know what out of all these is unnecessary and which is a MUST. Also what should be the sequence of reading ? Please help me in making my stratagy for clearing SCJP 5.0

Thanks in Advance to all My dear Ranchers....

I'm also in doubt of which book to buy but I'm leaning towards K&B's book. For the new stuff in 5.0 I'm gonna borrow "Professional Java, JDK 5 Edition" from a friend.

Please excuse me for promoting my own book, but the 5.0 edition of "Complete Java Certification" came out recently. I clarified a lot of the old material, and added coverage of all the new objectives.

I just finished Head First Java, and it's the best programming book I've read to date. It's made me laugh more than a few times and explains everything realy well. You randomly get to say that reading a book on a programming language is fun, but this is about is close as it gets.

Teaching yourself anything is always the cheapest way, but it definitely takes a lot of time and effort.<br /> <br />Thank you javaranch <a href="http://""" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Learn How to Ask Your Question</a> and be nice

4. Khalid Mughal's Book (again for 1.4)

is THE BEST book. As I had other book, still I purchased this. The subject of this book is above the level of SCJP.

Hi Guys, congrats Phil,

A couple of thoughts:

Sun's ePractice will be available in a week or two.

Tiger K & B is coming soon, and review opportunities almost immediately.
