Hi !

I am a new member of this group. I have plans to take up my SCJP but dont know when as I have started preparing . I juz wanted to ask you people how long does it take to study K&B. Since, I am busy with my work...I get time to study some time in night and probably in the week-end. Can u people say how long does it normally take to prepare for this certification or go through the k&B completely?

Hi krish!
As far as certification is concerned, it depends on the stuff you already know, and the nature of how soon you grasp things. You may be good at aptitude and may have good thinking capabilities, but without a programming knowledge you may be delayed. Similarly, if you know little concepts of java but find yourself difficult to code then it would be a hinderance again.

I would say I would take MINIMUM 3 weeks to completely finish K&B. And one thing Krish, K&B is not a novel to read on weekends, I dont know about you but I find myself harder to get back when I give gaps. Try to breath java everyday, if you cant read 10 pages daily, no probs read 5 but do read first... continuity is must, I suppose.

Well, all these are my views and I shall also better inform you I am not an SCJP holder, and just a beginner like you. Good Luck! !!

That second book is HeadFirst Java. Don't be mislead by the humor in the HeadFirst books, they are very serious jokes that support the learning. They are excellent text books in a class of their own. However HeadFirst Java is not aimed at the programmer exam, though for a person new to Java it would make a very, very good place to start.

"Head First Java" New edition is NOT A JOKE But Its an amazing book. It make concepts stick to your brain for years. I started with this book and I know Java better than 2 months ago when I was reading other SERIOUS java Books.
