Hi Arjun,

Resources for SCJP 5.0:
Free Mocks:
Marcus Green's mock: http://www.examulator.com/phezam/login.php
JavaBeat: http://javabeat.net/javabeat/tiger/notes/tiger_notes_index.html

Free Study Notes:
MZ: http://java.boot.by/scjp-tiger
JavaBeat: http://javabeat.net/javabeat/tiger/notes/tiger_notes_index.html

Exam Book:
Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide (5th edition) by Philip Heller
SCJP 5.0 exam book by Bert and Kathy (not yet published) See the post by Bert in this thread

Btw, I didn't use any of the above resources since they're not yet available while I was preparing for SCJP 5.0 beta. Also, I suggest you do a search in SCJP (i.e. this forum) and Sun Certification Results forums for tips/feedbacks on SCJP 5.0 from the Ranchers.

Why doesn't anyone ever suggest actually using the programming language to write applications or real world experience as usefull tools to passing the exam?

I hope that real world experience is implied and that is why it's rarely mentioned. Please remember memorizing the information and memorizing the practice test are useless once you try to actually get a job.

Hi Sal,

Why doesn't anyone ever suggest actually using the programming language to write applications or real world experience as usefull tools to passing the exam?

It's possible to pass an exam and score with flying color without any mocks and exam books. However, having resources such as exam books/mocks would definitely make life easier. Exam books tell us how much and what we need to study, and mocks are used as a means to gauge our readiness for the exam and to test if we truly understand what we've learned. Nevertheless, with or without additional exam resources, writing lots of code and experimenting them is a must process for learning a programming language.

I hope that real world experience is implied and that is why it's rarely mentioned.

By saying real world experiences, do you mean writing a moderate to large scale application? That's definitely a great way of learning a programming language. But whatever you've applied may not be enough to cover the topics tested in the exam. And that's when exam books come in handy.

Please remember memorizing the information and memorizing the practice test are useless once you try to actually get a job.

Memorizing mock questions will not help in exam either.

Hai Joyce Lee,
Its True. When I First time appread in SCSA Part I I don't know about mock or any other questions, I studied only Sun Solaris Book Materials. I got lot of practical experence but I never attend or practice any Objective type Questions. But I failed to pass SCSA in 3 marks . But I passed it next time Because I prepared mock and other Q&A around 2400+.

Now I got Good experence in Java Swing Programming with J2EE. But When I'm preparing SCJP I got lot of extra Knowledge and code optimization technique. and more I'm having lot of Q&A around 3450+. But Don't think it cover SCJP 5.0 . I'm very seriously preparing for SCJP 5.0 exam . Now I came to know sun entirely changes memory optimization point of view . wow now jdk 5.0 little fast[really fast] in server meachines according to old versions.

But how many persons know this features I don't know  . I'm very intrested to get SCJP 5.0 sun materials to know the new features . Now I'm studing all Forum and white papers to pass SCJP 5.0 .
