hi guys..
i m new to the group and have this inclination of attempting SCJP.
But i m a bit confused. can anyone sort it out for me.
1. What's diff between SCJP JAVA2 1.5(310-055) n SCJP JAVA2 1.5(310-035) n which one is better?
2. The upgrade of SCJP JAVA2 1.5(310-056) can be taken only after SCJP JAVA2 1.5(310-055)?

kindly help...

Welcome Akash!

310-335 is for Java 1.4 (not 5.0).

310-356 is an "upgrade" to 5.0 for programmers who have already passed the SCJP for a previous version (for example, 1.4).

See this Sun page...

Thanks for that information Marc!!!... by (310 035) I meant JAVA 1.4 only(it was mistyped).... I just want to confirm that SCJP for JAVA 1.5 is better than SCJP JAVA 1.4 or not....

Regards,
AKASH

It really depends on what your goals are in taking this exam.

On one hand, 1.5 is the most current, so this would demonstrate that you're familiar with the new features (which you're going to need to learn at some point anyway). However, there isn't much test preparation material available yet that's specific to 1.5, so you might find this frustrating if you're new to Java.

On the other hand, 1.4 is still quite relevant, and there is plenty of test preparation material available. So if your goal is to simply get certified and/or move on to the other exams (SCJD, SCWCD, etc.), then you will probably find 1.4 to be your quickest route -- especially if you're new to Java.
