And where have you seen this information. Are you sure you just don't mean the JDK?
I also heard SCJP 7.0 will be coming out and through a fried of a fried with inside connections, a certification for SCJP 8.0 is also being considered. I would use caution in disseminating that information as I would not want my friend's friend's contact to get in to hot water over this leak.
SCJP 6.0 is essentially useless to those with SCJP 5.0. Java 6.0 contains no new language features, according to those who know gnu language features. So technically speaking, the value is somewhere between diddly and squat versus Java 5.0 certification.
If you are taking the 1.4 exam you should get a psychologically flavored medical exam as there is plenty of downside and no benefit over a 5.0 cert.
