Hi Guys,

First off, I'd like to apologize for the delays in completing the update for the book. The bottom line is that we underestimated the amount of work that would be required for the update, and that's totally our fault.

However, we think there is a lot of good news associated with the update:

1 - The new book is going to have more mock questions than the previous version.
2 - The format of the mock questions has been enhanced to reflect the change of the formatting on the new Sun exam. This includes a paper version of drag and drop questions.
3 - The JavaRanch technical review team is doing a FANTASTIC job! There are a lot of topics that didn't really change with this new exam, but the reviewers found issues with existing chapters that compelled us to improve a lot of topics that we originally thought we wouldn't update at all.
4 - Overall, our coverage of the SCJP exam is going to grow by probably 180 pages over the last edition of the book. (We're not sure what's going to happen with the SCJD section, but we imagine we'll just move it on to the CD.) What this basically means is that the new edition will be almost entirely devoted to the SCJP, and the SCJD content won't consume valuable pages

At this point in the updating process, a significant part of the schedule involves the copy editing and page proofing. Our editor has been away this week. We are scheduled to meet with him early next week to discuss final schedules. After that meeting we will post an updated schedule, right here on this forum.

We appreciate your patience, and we'll have an updated schedule early next week.

Thanks,

Bert

Good move on moving the SCJD material to the CD. I agree that its not worth devoting valuable pages to SCJD since so few people are taking it these days. It may be more appropriate to put it in a separate book that covers SCEA material as well (since both are focused on projects).

Thanks for the update Bert!

I think it's more that he isn't going to take it. The number of people participating in our SCJD forum is great.

This question was asked quite recently. The answer is no.

I'm also interested in finding out when the new version will be available. I've pretty much finished studying all the 1.4 material. I guess I'm going to have to try to tackle the 5.0 material on my own.
