Applet to Browser communication

Hi ... This is my first time posting on this forum, and I want to say - Class Act! I have lurked here looking at messages for a couple of days, and found the tone to be fun *and* professional.
Now to my post:
What kind of communication can the Applet carry on with the Browser? I know about the methods in AppletContext, but there must be more! An example of what i mean is i saw a menu recently that floated with the viewable part of the window. I can see the code to do this, but where do you get the info about where to move to and when??

I am trying to get deep with applets, and am having a hard time getting good info. Every book tells the life cycle, the paint method state diagram, basic security issues etc etc - but of course, there is much more info seemingly buried in the lore. I would love to see a thread on Applet Secrets! anyone??
TIA - Tom
