I am planning to write the SCJP 1.4 exam and am not able to decide where to start my preperation from. I am really confused. . I would highly appreciate if any one could let me know how to start the exam preparation.
Looking into the fact that i have very little programming experience in java please suggest a good starting point and preparatiom time required.

Thanks a lot,

hi Riya,
I would suggest u go thru Kathy and Bert (K&B) book and khalid mughal.
(K&B )is good enough for the exam from my point of view, once u finish it u can start giving mock exams which r available online.

Me too preparing for the exam....

one more thing i would like to know is when we r preparing for scjp is it necessary that we shud code each and everything and practice it...if we are confident about the theory part i think we shpuld be able to handle the questions..this is only my opinion...please let me know on this...

Thanking uuuu,

yeah, i think you should have a lot of practices with mock exams. And if you don't understand about the codes in the mock exams, first thing you do is you should read again the theory, try the code by yourself and try to understand it. If you still don't understand you can ask to people here.
That's my opinion

Hi riya,
I think K & B is a very good book to start with but after that you must at least go through some chapters from khalid mughal as well and you should not miss the excercises given in khalid mughal.Regarding writing code, you should only practise by writing code on topics which you dont feel comfortable with. If you do this you'll surely get a good score.

Saurabh

Hi Riya,

I would suggest to do as much practice as you can. Here practice doesn't mean you have to write big programs, but concept should be clear. Once you will start reading for the exam & doing mock exam then you will automatically come to know your weak areas, where & what type of practice you need.
I am not expert in java. I am just writing my views Even I am also preparing for SCJP

Thanks
Gagan.
