Well, you might not be excited, but I am

Man, what a monster this has been! We are REALLY sorry that it's taken so long, and that we did such a bad job predicting how long it would take. Your continued patience is very much appreciated! None the the following is an excuse, but instead a bit of an explanation.

When we started into the so-called "update" last Spring, we imagined that we would be able to reuse maybe 70% of the existing book, and that we'd need about 160 pages of new material to cover the new Tiger topics on the exam. In reality, we discovered that we had to update vitually the whole darned thing If you compare the old edition to the new edition, you'll certainly be able to find that we reused some sections, but even in those cases we made lots of minor updates. We discovered that even for objectives we thought hadn't really changed, the new exam goes a lot deeper than the old exam!
The next thing we discovered was that the new topics took a lot more "splainin" than we thought they would...instead of adding 160 pages, we added almost 300 pages! (We think that's pretty good news for everyone, except for those of you who are hoping for portability ). So, the old book had about 750 physical pages, and the new book has about 850 physical pages Plus, we moved about 145 physical pages (the SCJD section and a few other miscellaneous pieces) out of the book and onto the CD.) Finally, we deleted about 25 pages of topics that were removed from the Tiger exam (primarily bit twiddling and the Math class). The bottom line is that all of the physical pages are now devoted to the SCJP exam, all of the SCJD stuff has been moved to the CD.

Okay, dates! The book is being indexed as we speak. There are still a few unknowns, but we believe the book will hit the stores and Amazon during the holidays. So, for those of you who happen to get the first copies, that will happen before the end of the year!

As far as India goes, we're still looking into that. In the past, the Indian edition has been available 4-8 weeks after the U.S. edition. That's really just a guess, we'll let you know as soon as we find out more.

We posted a sample from the book a few weeks ago, with the promise of more to come. Now that we're throught the crunch, we'll prepare another couple of samples, look for sample 2 in a few days.

hth,

Bert
