you hav 2.5 yrs experience, if you have worked for 1.4 long time and if your company finds it heloful if you get 1.5 certification, then u must go for i.5 certification

if you are not on job, then still you should go for 1.5 certification
but the 1.5 exam is quite tough. the kathay sierra book is yet to arrive in india, it will be available in febraury 2006

if you still want to appear you may get the Heller Roberts book and get startred

To offer an opposing viewpoint - if you feel more comfortable, after 2 1/2 years, go for the 1.4 certification.

Both are still equally valid, and as you can see from folks in this forum, there are still plenty who are going for that version of the exam. You can always come back later and update to the newer test when you feel more comfortable with the features of the newer version.

The major questions to ask yourself are: What is your timeline for sitting for the exam? Does your employer/potential employers have a preference for one version over the other? Do you feel that you can learn the features for the newer test in the amount of time you have available?

Just weigh the options, the pros and cons, and figure out which option best helps you accomplish the goals you have for yourself.

Most employers are not aware of the differences between the exams and there is far more study material available for the JDK 1.4 exam, multiple books, multiple free web resources etc. Rumour is that the JDK 1.5 is probably a bit harder than the 1.4 exam.

On the other hand it is nice to know the latest technologies and the 1.5 topics are possibly more sensible than the 1.4, e.g. no bit shifting stuff and coverage of the interesting new features such as parameterized types.
