For those of you who are waiting, I have a copy of the new K&B for SCJP 5 in my hands, as I type (that's why I'm typing so slowly ). The publisher says it's being shipped now so depending on where you live it could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks until it's available. If I had to guess (and this is really a guess!!), I'd say that Amazon will start shipping it in about a week. The new book has a white and red cover, the old cover was blue and red. Also, look for the phrase "Java 5" in the title, because the old book will still be available (and it says "Java 2"). (phew!) - Bert

Congratulations. Seems that it's harder to give existence to a book than to a baby !!! Now that this book is done, what's the next one ? Vincent

Hi Bert and Kathy, Thanks very much... this is wonderful news! Have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book, for so long. Would like to know when this book will be available in the Indian market. I can see few posts here asking for the same information...can you please let us know? It would benefit so many of us, who have been longing to 'tame the Tiger' Thanks and regards, Chindhu PS: I accidentally pressed 'Add Reply' before actually typing in my reply in the earlier post. Regret the same :

I passed 1.4 with a low score so I think I'm going to give it a try and go for the 5.0 update. Looking forward to reading your book and get my revenge

Hi Guys, Most of our contacts at Osborne are away for the holidays this week. Before the holidays I asked about the timing for the Indian edition, but no one was able to find out before Christmas. As soon as people are available, I'll start asking again, but my guess is that I won't have any news until after the new year. BTW, I'm curious to know if anyone has any feedback about the second book sample we posted a few days back? Thanks, Bert

Hi, I've read sample one. Finished the chapter about widening and boxing and almost fainted It's easy to understand, but that's the kind of question I hate. I also loved : "To make it more confusing for you, the Java language designers made it optional to put a semicolon at the end of the enum declaration" We do love complications. In sample two, you wrote (Serialization): "See the Java API for details about versioning issues and solutions" That would have been nice to point out where to look for (which class, which methods...) Overall, I think that it was really easy to read through. Java5 does not seem to be an easy Tiger to tame, but I hope your book will make it look like an armless pussycat I'll probably go for it as soon as I finish SCBCD.

I have back-ordered this book for a very long time.. Amazon is saying that the expected ship date is sometime in February(11th, infact). Bert, I thought the book is going to be available before the end of the year.

Arun, et. al.,

Amazon is a wonderful thing, but they are notoriously bad at updating a lot of their data. I have had a copy of the book for almost a week now, and that copy went from the printer to the publisher before it came to me. So at this point the books are somewhere on trucks or boats getting to bookstores and places like Amazon. If anyone wants to bet, I'll bet that in the span of one day (a day very soon), Amazon will go from saying the book is 4-6 weeks away to saying that it "ships within 24 hours". hth, Bert
