Hi All, I am new to the JAVA Technology. Presently I am going through the language basics and I wish to achieve a certification in JAVA. Can u kindly help me out with following questions: 1. What is the certification path? On sun.com I could see some list of rpoducts like SUN Certified Java Associate, SUN Certified Java Programmes, some stuff like SCWCD etc.. Do I need to appear for the examinations in the same order? Like first pass the Sun Certified Associate Exam, then go to SUN Certified Programmer and so on...
2. Can some one tell me the syllabus for the examination?? I am trying to find some book by SUN itself but I am not able to find it. Can u help me out with this??

If your going to start anywhere you might has well start from the begining. The SCJA is the lowest certification but is not required to take any of the others. The SCJP is next and is needed to take anyother exam. Passing it isn't a walk in the park but there are a lot of books on the topic. If you are looking for books I would start with "Head First Java" to get a good grip on the basics and then get "Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide" by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates. The SCJA is still very new so you won't find any books on the topic but reading Head First Java and a little surfing of the web should be all you need to pass.
