Hi,

I am contemplating doing the following course for the SCJP

http://www.bcoc.co.uk/java_scjp/training_courses_london/java_scjp_programming.aspx

but I was wondering as it was expensive do most people take a course just
before the exam or do most people just study books at home and look
at sample questions without going to the expense of doing a course?

Would a course if you can afford it be significantly better than teaching
yourself at home or is it just personal preference?

Cheers
David

I definitely is a personal thing. How dare you ask.

It depends, some people do learn better in classes than by reading books. But the one thing that I know people learn by is through experience. The one thing with a class is that when it is done, you have your notes, but no more class. With books and mocks and experience, you always have something physical to look at, and you get to go at your own pace.

When I first learned Java, I took classes at UC Irvine Extension classes and I thought they were great classes and I learned a lot. But then again my work also paid for those classes.

Thanks for the reply,

After checking out the price of the exam (~100) I think I will just stick
to reading up on Java as much as I can and save myself the expense of a course. The amount of books you could get for the price of the course is ridiculous.I was under the impression paying for the exam was the expensive bit the course would be including!

Regards
David
