- Java: The Complete Reference, J2SE 5 Edition
- Java 2 v5.0 (Tiger) New Features
- Head First Java, 2nd Edition
- Java In A Nutshell, 5th Edition
- Java 5.0 Tiger: A Developer's Notebook

Are these books good enough for SCJP 5.0 preparation?

The head-first book is not made for SCJP exam preparation if I am right so I would not buy that one.

I ordered the K&B book a few days ago, from what I've heared, that book is the best.

Make sure you get exam specific books if you are studying for the exams. There is the K&B JDK1.5 edition and my very own tigertamer

Hey Kengkaj,

The books you listed can certainly help you in your studies, but most people focus their studies around a book that's focused on the exam. Even then, there is a LOT to study, and the advantage of a book that's focused on the exam you're studying is that you can save TONS of time!!! Once you've got an exam book you like, you can use other books to supplement, but you'll want to use those other books very selectively. The other books you mention will have entire chapters on topics that aren't on the exam.

hth,

Bert

p.s. Also, most exam candidates agree that taking mock exam tests is crucial to studying for the exam, and none of the books you listed will have any mock exam questions.
