Hi
I am planning to take up scjp1.4 exam;yesterday i went to book store to buy K&B book for scjp1.4 exam(310-035).But in the book store only scjp1.5(310-055) K&B book is available.he said scjp1.4 book written K&B is not coming now a days once 1.5 exam is delivered.can i buy scjp1.5 book to prepare for scjp 1.4 exam(310-035);what chapters can i leave out from that book?
I think more tutorials, references & mock exams available for scjp 1.4 than 1.5;so at this time i want to take up 1.4;what do u think?

In my opinion it is better to take the 5.0 exam, but that might be because I am using the 5.0 version when I develop at work.
It probably could be confusing to read the 5.0 book and take the 1.4 exam, since for example 1.4 does not have the boxing technology.
I know there are a lot more practice tests for 1.4, but I really think the K&B book will be enough + the existing mock exams for 5.0. I have read the Cybex book and I am now reading the K&B book, and I can tell you that the K&B book far superior than the Cybex book, it's like the Super-class of the Cybex book.
Good luck.

I suggest you to go for SCJP1.4. Tiger Exam is harder and the material available for it is less as compare to scjp1.4. Refer Khalid Mughal's book and then K&B twice. After this exam If you feel interest in SCJP1.5 then you can give upgrade exam.
I would do the 1.5 seeing as you have that book and it's the newest version. Regarding chapters, the book says when something is new in Java 5. So you could leave that out: eg: boxing, enums, var-args. But there are areas of the 1.4 exam, such as bit-shift operations, not tested in 1.5, so they won't be in the book...

My suggestion is to take 1.5 bcoz JDK6 is going to get released soon. Now if you enter into a comp you will use 5 and soon you will start using 6. Why u want to go to 1.4 now?

Employers generally won't know or care about the version of the exam, especially if you follow up with another exam such as SCWCD. However for personal satisfaction the JDK 1.5 exam has the edge.
