SCJP 1.4 or 5.0?

I am planning to get SCJP certification but not able to decide which one to take 1.4 or 5.0

Before you give me your valuable suggestion I would like to let you know that I am from c++ back ground and have some knowledge about Java through various CBTs (Computer Based Tests).

I may get into the new project two months from now and want to get into Java so thinking that the certification will help.

Personally, I've found in the past that it's probably helpful to know more than just 'some' from CBTs. But, setting that aside... if I just going for my initial SCJP now, I'd probably be targeting the 5.0 exam. Best, imho, to go after the most up-to-date standard and be aware of how it works.

But then again, I'm kind of biased as I'm also the person in my company who drove the move from 1.4 to 5.0 as the version of the language we're targeting.

Yes the certification will help. Look into what version of jdk the project uses. SCJP 1.5 is tougher than 1.4 ( DUH ! ). However the long term benifits are good. We dont have to take upgrade exams
