Java writing jobs

I'm seriously considering going totally contract, hopefully contract remote, in the future. I'd be looking for various techy writing jobs: writing books, writing training courses, etc. Assuming I get my Java up to a basic SCJP level, anyone know what the Java contract writing market is and general pay? I'd love to work 10 months a year doing contract remote jobs for $50 to $80 an hour; is this reasonable? I've been in contact with synergistech.com, Bay area, which is in that range, though there aren't all that many remote jobs.
Thanks,
Solveig Haugland
