I read that java 1.1 only supports 8 bit, u-law, 8000 Hz, one-channel, Sun ".au" files for audio playback. I can't seem to find a conversion program that will convert a wav file to this format so I can use it in my applet. Does anyone know of a good conversion program I can get and use for this? Thanks.

How about sox? I've used the older version to do this. The updated version looks even nicer than what I've used.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
