I have an application written in servlets and jsps. I need to use native code from a dll on the client which will return a string to go back to a servlet which then loads a new page into the clients current browser window. Is the best(and/or easiest) way to do this to use a signed applet to call the methods from a JNI wrapper dll, or could a separate java application on the client do this and communicate with the servlet?

HI Matt,
Signed applet seems to be a better option.
If u want to write a seperate java papplication, client has to download the application first. Also it makes compulsory to have jdk on client's machine.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
