Hi all

I have been programing for about 5 yrs now. None of my prgraming was Java related except for C++ (8 mnths). I am currently working for a Huge Software House but the Language Im using is a 4gl Procedural Language. My aim is to make the switch to Java.

What would be the best approach to learn Java from scratch and on becoming an SCJP.

How should I go about this. I have set myself a timespan of 7 months to become SCJP.

Is this possible?

Hi,

Welcome to javaranch...

Since u r totally new to java u can't refer any SCJP book. SCJP Study guide are not for beginners.

I wud recommend u go thru first

1. Complete Reference by Herbert Schildt
2. Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel.

When u get fair knowledge on java. Then u can start SCJP study guides.

SCJP Books...
1. SCJP 5.0 BY Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates (One of the Most famous book)
2. SCJP by Simon Robert.
3. SCJP by Khalid Mughal.

plus remember one more thing....

Don't mix C/C++ with JAVA. They r totally different even at operator level.

regards
