Hi,
I think since you are new to java, and you will be learning java from the begining I would say forget about 1.4 and go for 1.5
It's the latest and covers (almost) all what is in the previous versions.

regards,

yea, 5. but to my opinion, it is tougher than 1.4. However since u just start, u won't feel it.

Hai the decision should be based on ur intensions. If u want a job the try 1.4 because it is easier than 1.5 u can score a lot. Scores are very important for interviews and to find jobs. Also 1.5 is not adopted in most of the top compaines and will not be for atleast a year. So go for 1.4 itself.
But if u want to learn a lot and dont have any urgency then go for 1.5. Its a real challenge.

Hi Anjali,

5.0 is not all that difficult with the study guide by K&B. At the same time it is not as easy as 1.4. It needs some effort on your part. I just completed my preps for 5.0 and am planning to take it in a week.

Pick the K&B, write as much code as possible. Attempt some mock exams and you should be able to clear SCJP 5.0 hands down.

Hi anjali..

i think as per the situation for which u r going to take up the exam i would suggest u taking up the 1.4 rather than 5. you can always upgrade once you get enough time to prepare.look in to your javaranch profile for details
