Hi Friends, Today I will be buying the certification voucher. I have been planning to give the 1.4 exam for quite a while now and have all (2-K&B, Khalid M.) the books realted to 1.4. I have just started preparing though. I am mostly going to go for 1.4. My next goal is going to be SCWCD exam. I am getting troubled if i should consider the 1.5 exam instead. I am confused really. I am not sure how different is 1.5. For me it is most important to get SCJP certified ASAP.
So my requirements are: 1. Need to get certified as soon as possible. 2. Need to then target the SCWCD as I am into J2EE. So getting SCJP is on the highest priority for me as of now.
Would value suggestions from experienced people especially the modertators . A quick response will help me a lot.
Thanks in advance!! _Rohit

If time is critical, then i would suggest you to go for SCJP 1.4, since many topics like Generics, autoboxing, java.io, have been added in SCJP 1.5 and you might need more time to prepare for it. Also, as you said, you already have all the books related to 1.4. Good luck.

FYI: I have roughly 2 months time on hand to prepare.

If you are prepared for 1.4 take 1.4. The changes in the examination between 1.4 and 5.0 really are very significant. And the perceived "worth" of the exam has increased because of the move from "testing of memory of concepts" to "testing of understanding of concepts".
If you want to go for 5.0 give yourself time. What's more important: knowing Java well, or being certified? An employer will test your knowledge of Java not rely on your certification certificate.
"Need to then target the SCWCD as I am into J2EE." If you are "into" J2EE you need SCBCD not SCWCD. [ July 21, 2006: Message edited by: Barry Gaunt ]
