how to invoke an application from within an applet

hi there ppl,
i want to invoke any application from within a applet. how can i do this, my code shud run on any window platform. i am using java 1.5.

Do i hav to change certain security policies or what ever, before doing it . if yes pls give me the detail to do it also .

If possible , pls give a working code for this problem , as it wud cut my project time.


pls its very urgent ......

Yes, you will modify to set the client's Java security settings to launch an application from an applet. Applications run in a more relaxed sandbox, so otherwise there would be the ability to effectively elevate security in applets.

I have no examples myself. Given a choice, however, I'd prefer to not run a discrete application, but simply try and keep everything within the applet's context. If there are reasons that can't be done (calling an third-party application or whatever) I'd consider using Java Web Start and bypassing the applet altogether.

thanx TIM for u r reply , one my problem is sorted , dat u hav to change security settings , but how do i change security settings , and give me some detail abt java web start , i dont know much abt it .

nad yes ppl if anyone of u out there cud just give the proper code for this problem along with how to change the security setting on client side, pls do so.

waiting for some code this time , thnx anyway tim ..

As for signing an applet, it's a configuration task, not a coding task, so there's no code to share. You can read about signing applets here and java web start here.
