Hai,

I am really intersted in java coding and consider of taking SCJP seriously.

But if u refer net u will be overwhelmed by the materials available and frankly I am confused to go for the right one.

I do want to take scjp straight away without going for scja since it is not necessary as the stepping stone for certification.

Now my questions are SCJP 1.5 is really harder than SCJP 1.4.
What should I opt?

It will be greatly appreciated if some one who had already taken the SCJP could tell me their road (the books and materials referred and preparation time) to certification .

Thanks
Devidas

If I'm correct SCJP 1.5 has questions on new features like Generics and some little I/O i think ( bitwise operations which are in 1.4 are removed in 1.5 thankfully [someone correct me if I'm wrong] ). It's upto you to device which version you want to take.

There are a lot of other threads in this forum about pros and cons of 1.5 and the 1.4 exam. Please search through the forum and read, you're bound to find proper info.

If you want to study seriously, you shouldn't care that much about "which one is easier".

Still, in the industry it will take a long long time before you have/can write code using Java 1.5...

I develop in Java in a leading edge technology company, and the JVM is Java 1.1 compliant...ok this might not be the "rule" but it does happen, if you want to take is slow, then go for the SCJP 1.4, when you feel comfortable with Java 1.5 you can always take the update from SCJP 1.4 to SCJP 1.5 (without paying the whole fee), if you want to do it faster, then study for the SCJP 1.5...if you don't care about Java 1.5, then simply go for SCJP 1.4.

Trust me...a bunch of Project Managers have no idea about generics and stuff...and most likely you will have to develop on JVM 1.2/1.4.

I deleted and edited a few posts related to being out of place in SCJA (as it was before marc moved it).

I suggest you browse our Sun Certification Results Forum. People often describe their exam experiences there. This forum has already had several topics where differences between SCJP 1.4 and 5.0 have been discussed.
