Wow, I've been reviewing this SCJP 5.0 stuff for two months and
it's quite a migraine hog. I could remember I had a stiff neck for
one week. Can you guys post the difficulties you encountered just to
force yourself to get through the books and the mocks. Sometimes,
I have the feeling this thing is too difficult. Maybe after this SCJP
5.0 exam you'll magically morph into a Java Compiler, or Jabba the Hutt.

I've religiously studied, yet sometimes I just score 5 on each of the
K&B chapter exams. I never passed any one of em, but I never forgot
the mistakes I made though. Any frustration experiences would be
invaluable, thanks.

Wont it be dreamy, if Santa Claus awards free 10 pts after the exam,
hahaha

The reality is that the exam is quite difficult and requires a significant amount of study. You are on the right track however by working through the K&B mock exams, stick with it.

a couple of ways to make the exam less painfull

1) use practice exams that let you take small number of questions. I can set the whizlabs exam to let me do 10-20 questions and complete it in in 20 minutes. Trying to focus for 2 hours is very difficult. doing 10-20 questions a couple of times a day is much easier.

2)keep your book with you at all times. If you have a couple of seconds while you wait for something: read a page.

3) decide on some reward for passing the exam. Don't buy that thing no matter how desireable until you pass the exam.

4)tell yourself, " I like reading exam prep books and preparing for the exam" multiple times every day. eventually you will believe it.

hahaha ! yes it can be tough at times. Stick with it and you will come out stronger. I still use that SCJP book for reference at work now and then.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
