Is it necessary to memorize the java keywords?

You should know the keywords inside/out. Not just know their names but what they do, in what contexts they are used, which other keywords they are commonly associated with, which ones cannot be used together.

wise owen is absolutely correct. These are very important.

You might find it helpful to make a chart of keywords, breaking them up into different categories. For example, different columns for primitives, flow control, modifiers, etc.

Yes. You should memorize the java keywords. because it will come one or two question in scjp1.4 under categories of Language Fundamental.
