guys i am so confused with quantifiers.. could any one explain me how the quantifiers and group() work in pattern matching with an example.. in k&B book they had given some examples.. but i was not able to understand the concepts

Try reading Sun's Tutorial Section on Regular Expressions and do the practical examples.

Getting someone to think and try something out is much more useful than just telling them the answer.
