Hi Theepan,

As I've been studying for the 1.5 exam, I've been keeping a list of the new things in 1.5.

So far I have:

1. Var Args
2. Enums
3. Autoboxing
4. Covariant return types
5. Enhanced "for" loop
6. StringBuilder class
7. PrintWriter now has constructors that can take in a File or a String.

The list keeps growing - I'm only on chapter 6 in the K&B book.

Hope this helps!

Richard

See our SCJP FAQ: How is the SCJP 1.5 exam different from the SCJP 1.4?

And these Sun pages:
  • New Features and Enhancements - J2SE 5.0
  • J2SE 5.0 in a Nutshell

  • Since you're already certified for 1.4, note that Sun offers "upgrade" exams, which are also addressed in our FAQ. 1.5 introduced a lot of significant new features, so upgrading makes sense. As for 1.6... We'll have to wait and see what's offered in terms of exams (it could be an upgrade only), but it's clearly not as significant a jump as 1.5 was.
