Hi Massimo
I think this is just the start.
We need to plan and study accordingly.

But first and foremost thing is what all to read ???

For all, if you have some links or materials to study from, please share.

Wow!!
Great response
Well, the best book to study is the one written by Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates (K&B). But, it needs some working knowledge of Java to start with. Just stick to it. I know..I know..we always tend to look for other books and its mainly because of our nature. So, strictly..STICK TO THIS BOOK.

Hi Folks,
I am Srinivasan. I wish you all pass SCJP in distinction. I am about to take the exam on 25th of Feb. I would like to share some hints for preparation of SCJP.

1. i feel its more of a Memory test, so practise and revision is a must to
remember well. (First five chapters everything is a RULE. they demand
Some of your brain's act like a ROM with all rules burnt into it)
Why because,
1.1 we need to remember which access specifiers apply to general class,
inner classes(all types), constructors, methods, fields.
1.2 Coming to overloading brand new rules to practise and
remember with introduction variable args, and Autoboxing.
1.3 coming to data types, type casting rules. Like when implicit type
casting will be done. when promotion is done. and Wrapper class
functions for primitives need a look.

2. Collections: Brand new complie time type checking needs more practise to
digest.

3. Threads if you catch them ok. otherwise lost in "Matrix".
we need to through list of what is guaranteed and what is not guaranteed

4. Some classes from io package like Readers and writers , Strings, util
Date related stuff need practise.

Hello ranchers,
In SCJP5.0 and SCJP1.4 the topics are same? I already bought SCJP5.0 books, may I prepare for SCJP1.4. Some of my friends said recently SCJP5.0 exam is more difficult then SCJP1.4. Is it correct?

Hey!
Go for the latest because the world looks for the latest. Java 6 is on the way..so Java 5 has already become older!
Don't think about tough/easy. Just care about SCJP - moving ahead of others - living in the latest!

Hello,
you better to read first Head first JAVA. It's a good book for Java, and after that you start with K&B for SCJP.

All the Best!!!

hey Chaya

Its better to first read head first java and then K&B. But since you have less time if you are familier with the basics of java, you can directly jump to K&B. Its a great book for SCJP

All the Best!!!

I'm in the same boat as y'all and plan on taking the exam in late March/early April.

I studied Java for 4 years in college and have been a professional Java web developer for 4.5 years.

I have spent about 3 months studying the K&B book for at least 13 hours a week. Yeah - sounds like a lot. I'm going for more of a complete understanding of the material rather than memorization. I believe this will make my job easier and my next certification less painful.

I've found that during my web development in Java - I've lost touch with (or have taken for granted) many of Java concepts.

Good luck to all of you who are taking the exam in March!

Richard
