hi
i was planning to take scjp 5 in july-august.
But with the release of java 6.0 I will be more interested in taking 6.0 exam than 5.0
I know there is always an option of upgrading but with the kind of money and effort involved in taking cert exam, it would be better to attempt 6.0
Can anyone please tell me ( or have any idea) when SUN would start adminstering the 6.0 exam

Next year may be. May be not. You never know. Right now SCJP 5 is the latest version

Note that there have been a lot of rumors posted as "fact," so unless the information comes directly (not purportedly) from Sun...

I think Bert Bates being the lead developer of scjp exam, he might be having a very good idea about the probability of 6.0 in near future.

Why don't you search this forum for Bert's recent post on this topic?

Hi Dan,

It takes couple of years for a new exam version to arrive. It also depends on other factors such as Technology penetration in addition to Sun's own plans. I don't expect SCJP 6.0 to arrive within a year. Even Bert may not know .

If you are keen in taking Java Programmer certification, SCJP 5.0 is the right exam for you.

Best wishes,
Pradeep

Thanks Pradeep for your insight.
I will assume 6.0 will not be available until year-end.
