if you go to the main page for the SCJP forum (the one that lists all the topics under said forum), you'll see near the top a bunch of "important links". several of those will lead you to reccomended books.
You can also check out the bunkhouse on the main www.javaranch.com page, and read reviews of various books on the subjects.
