See Sun's Java Certification page for details on the different exams, and note that the SCJP exam is the "foundation" required for all the others. That's where to start.

(The "entry level" SCJA exam is not required for the SCJP.)

Yes, i will preffer to give SCJP 5.0 it is the latest and even cover most of the latest programming technics, and for reading the book just go with KathySeirra's Book,
just 100% perfect for the exam point of view.

Hi,

There are different certifications. I think you are going to take the exam for the first time. To my knowledge, SCJP is the first paper. This is for core java.

SCJA is for an "Associate." The exam is higher level overview of Java's capabilites (micro, standard, and enterprise) without going into detail on how everything works. My understanding is that it's intended for people who will work with Java, but not actually be doing the programming -- for example, project managers.

SCJP is for a "Programmer." The exam covers language foundations in detail and is a prerequisite for more advanced exams (like web component development). If you are a programmer, this is generally the place to start.
