Hi,

My knowledge on SCJP 1.4 is 6.5 on a scale of 10.
I am a new to 5.0.
Is it possible to prepare for SCJP 5.0 in 15 days and take up the
test on the 16th day?

I am supposed to take it in that short period.
So, please advice asap !

What are the shortcuts of learning quickly and preparing for it?

Please don't rush.

Time taking activities:

generics may take time +
remaining 1.5 syllabus coverup +
sample mock tests +
review work

Hi Srinivasan thoyyeti,

Thanks for the prompt reply. Guess its difficult to do all that you have told in such a short time.
But is there a way ?

Is there a way to crack it in 15days ?
Or am I trying to be over optimistic here ?

As your knowledge in 1.4 is 65%, coupling scjp 1.5 portions esp
generics you can't get thru in 1.5. i suppose you will need atleast
one month. certainly over optimistic.

best way i think to find out is how well you do with a timed mock exam. give that a try and you'll know.

edit:

man, not sure if that message was clear. here's more info on what i mean. based on how well you do with a timed-mock exam, you'll gauge what your weaknesses are and whatever time you have for preparation you'll be able to know if its possible or not.

Java 5 contains a whole lot of new language features: generics, annotations, new for-loop syntax, autoboxing, enums, varargs, static import. That's a lot of new stuff to learn.

Do you have any experience with Java 5 or have you never heard of these things before? If this is all brand new to you, then it will be really hard to learn all the new stuff in just 15 days...

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice.

Jasper,
I have only worked on 1.4 and not on Java 5.0. So it would be a
little difficult to catch the new concepts I guess.

Howdy Praveen Harris,

Welcome to JavaRanch.

As other ranchers suggested, definitely Java SE 5.0 has lot many new features. I also would suggest you NOT to be in a hurry just for the sake of taking an exam. You can definitely leverage it to a convenient and comfortable extent so as to get it cleared with a strong knowledge as well.

Good luck
