Sun did have a special offer a while ago where you could re-take a failed exam for free... but unfortunately that offer's not valid anymore. So unless you're really rich, work to make it count the first time, Adam!

But the agreement policy which shows that there is free retake but we need to wait for 2 weeks.. I registered last month i.e around Oct 21 in US.. Do you think they have not updated the policy.

Ain't that a b17ch! In the time I started going for the certification, they've added 10 questions, took away 10 and now this. This is the main reason I quit going after Novell cert's way back when. The rules kept changing in mid-air. I'm not rich and don't need the cert that bad. I'm going to shelve it for now and brush up on my SQL.

If you think you'll fail, then you will really fail! You have to think you will pass and do the all it takes to get 100% in your mind!

I'm not rich. And I don't get that much from my job before either. So stay positive, study hard, get enough sleep and you'll pass.

Hi Robert,

what did they add / take away?

I don't have specifics of the questions, but there were 10 unscored questions added and later removed after I started pursuing certification. There was also approximately 45 min's added and later removed to the maximum time allowed. The purpose was to field evaluate new exam questions prior to actually adding them to the exam. IMHO, that creates an unlevel playing field for those who have already taken the exam. Future certifications of the same caliber with a different set of questions?!?! That doesn't sit well with me.

I'll probably come back to it once the flip/flopping settles, but in the mean time, I'll let my experience and reputation speak for itself. Someone in the biz once told me that you don't need a piece of paper to prove how smart you are (even though I still have a lot to learn ).

what are "unscored questions" ? ie. are they not on the sylabus?
how did you know?

Thanks for the encouragement Timothy...
I think our paths just crossed during posting.
I can't ignore the possibility of not passing the first time. There's a lot of mind games and trickery in these questions. The bottom line is I know how to write code, and like many other good/better developers out there, there is always reference material when I haven't used something in a while. That's the scope of work that I do. I just don't have the mental capacity to keep all the information committed to memory of all the platforms, projects and versions I work on.

I'm not trying to be negative as I am a positive person. Little side swipes like these interrupt the KISS principle that works for me .

They were evaluation questions that weren't scored on the exam. You still had to score at least 49 questions to pass (I think of the "real" questions), but there was no indication of when you encountered an unscored question.

I knew because it was on Sun's website and there were a few threads discussing it in this forum a while back. It's not on the website anymore and neither is the retake offer, which makes me think the website *is* up to date.

Most exams have different sets for the same certification. You randomly get one of these sets when you do the exam.
