I'm a bit of a rookie with regard to JavaRanch "bells and whistles"; it took me a while to discover the private message feature of JavaRanch. In particular, that to see if there are any private messages waiting for me, I need to click on the My Profile link at the top of the page.

Now, I take advantage of that feature from time to time to send others private messages, and often find that my messages aren't being read (the status of a "sent" message is visible from the My Profile page, as well.)

I'm posting this note in case other JavaRanch visitors are unaware of this capability ... thanks.

Jacquie

P.S. Has consideration ever been given to having the private message feature of JavaRanch actually send an email to the intended recipient instead?

One of the options (the last one) in your profile allows PMs to be sent by email. I thought that was the default, but it may have been the first thing I turned on all those years ago...

The problem is, many people do not provide a valid e-mail address when they register.

With other words, if you *want* to get private messages per email, you *can*.

Email forwarding is the reason why PM's sometimes show as not being read even though the person you sent them to has read them. I am very bad at going back and changing PM's to read after I read them in my email.
