i am much more confused whether may i write scjp 1.4 or scjp 1.5? anyone can rectify my confusion? still now, i am preparing 1.4 only... waiting for your valuable replies....

i think you should prepare for scjp 1.5 as per my knowledge as i am also preparing for the scjp 1.5.from where you came to know for scjp 1.6.i am schoked till now i am preparing for scjp 1.5 only.hope so scjp 1.6 is not released.

I think you should go for 1.5
few features are new n few changed so not much extra affords needed if already prepared for 1.4

Maybe someone can answer this - I don't understand. Why, if Java 5 has been out for over 2 years, would people even think about getting certified with the SCJP 1.4 exam? And yet we see a lot of people in this very forum asking about SCJP 1.4. Is this because people think 1.4 is easier in some way?

Well, a whole list of new features was added in Java 5 - generics, annotations, autoboxing, enums, etc. - which you'll have to learn when you do SCJP 5. On the other hand, a number of topics have been dropped from the SCJP exam (such as bit shift operators).

But really, in my opinion it indeed doesn't make much sense to do SCJP 1.4 instead of SCJP 5 if you're just starting right now.

In the real world, there are still a lot of companies who are still using Java 1.4.2, but more and more are switching to Java 5 or 6, so SCJP 1.4 is becoming more and more obsolete.

SCJP 6 has been released..you can take up this exam now..
if you have not started ypur preparation i think you can take up this..
