I am studying for the SCJP examination and shall be appearing for the same in the near future. I am told that the exam shall be based on Java 5.

I am reading 'Head first Java' in which it has been mentioned that anything after Java 1.4 can be considered as Java 5. Currently, the latest version of java available on the internet is Java 1.6.

So my question is: For the SCJP examination based on Java 5, shall I practice on the latest java version (1.6) or stick to the penultimate version only.

Hi Ravi,

You should stick to a Java 1.5 compiler and runtime environment. Although there weren't any major language changes from 1.5 to 1.6 (unlike the transition from 1.4 to 1.5), it's always best to be safe.
