this year i prepared for the Sun SCJP exam (CX-310-055) for Java 5 (1.5) SE. (Mostly with this book: SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide (Exam 310-055) ISBN-13: 978-0072253603)
This morning i liked to register to the exam but then i saw an updated/new exam: Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform, Standard Edition 6 (CX-310-065).
Now i'm double-minded if i should register to the CX-310-065 (java 6) instead to CX-310-055 (java 5).
On the sun website are only a few (mostly small) differences in the exam-objectives. And: I think there are not so many changes in the language from 5 top 6 (but i'm not sure).
My question is: Can anyone give a recommendation?
For example something like this:
"If you are well prepared for CX-310-055 then you have good chances for CX-310-065, too" or "Preperation for CX-310-055 is really not good enough by half for make CX-310-065" or "There are only a very few exam-relevant changes from java 5 to java 6"
There are some subtle differences between the 5 and 6 test:
Objective 3: New class System.Console Objective 5: (Objective 5-2, no overriden methods any more, only overloaded, I do not belive??) Objective 6: NavigableSet and NavigableInterfaces. Objective 7: No system.gc() any more, but still garbage collection
Time new: 210 min, 49 questions to pass, 72 questions Time old: 170 min, 43 questions to pass, 72 questions
In the 6 test you have slightly more time per question.
Now the number of question and the Time has been revised for SCJP6
* Number of questions: 60 (earlier it was 75)
* Pass score: 58.33 % (35 of 60) (earlier it was 65% (49 of 75) )
* Time limit: 180 minutes (earlier it was above 220mins)
