I am busy preparing for the java 5 scjp exam and I am know confused if I should wait and go for the new java 6 exam. Whats the purpose fo taking the upgrade exam if you already certified?. Do you get a all new certificate stating ver 6 or does it state that you have passed the upgrade exam.

Thanks in advance guys!

You can go for SCJP 6.0 instead of SCJP 6.0

A few objectives have been had to the new exam:
One class:

java.io.Console

and two interfaces:

java.util.NavigableSet
java.util.NavigableMap

See this thread:
SCJP 5.0 vs SCJP 6.0

Goog luck !!!

That's true. Only Console, NavigableSet and NavigableMap were added, plus more focus on garbage collection and finalize() method.
I really don't see any reason for you to take SCJP 5 instead of SCJP 6.
On my self, I prepared for the SCJP 5 from Bert's book, then I read in the java API doc about the three new classes and then I took my SCJP 6 exam. I got it with 83%.
In the exam I got only 1 question about the class Console and absolutely no questions about NavigableSet and NavigableMap. I got a couple of questions though about garbage collection and finalize().
Good luck with it!!
