Guide for SCJP 1.5

Hi,

I have a good basic knowledge about java. I am Doing MCA in India. Have done SUN courseware core and advance java course from NIIT Technologies. In their Module tests i scored 70% and 60% respectively without reading even once.

Now have almost gone through the book "Java, How to Program 7th edition" by Deitel and Deitel. Just 2-3 chapters are left. It concentrates more on java SE 6.0. But still i would like to go for SCJP 1.5 only.

I am planning to take the exam in first week of May. I have a query whether now reading K&B book help me further. If so which book to purchase, i mean which edition. Probably if i am provided with ISBN, Publishers name and year, would be obliged.

Also what is the difference between SCJP 1.5 and 1.4. Could someone just specify the extra topics added in 1.5.

Thanks in advance!

Go through the following link.

You will get the syllabus for both exams.
Even if you opt for 1.4 , there is one upgrade exam for 1.5
So you can choose anyone as per your preparation and wish.

And certainly thumbs up for cathy and bates book. Before taking up the test just go through it once.

Also see our SCJP FAQ (link is in my signature below).

Yes, Java 5 = Java 5.0 = Java 1.5. See this about Sun's idea about Java version numbers: Version 1.5.0 or 5.0?

Thanks Jesper!

My primary requirement was the K&B book information for purchasing the same.
I went through the link provided and got the following information about the book:

Can you or anyone please provide this books last Reprint Year or Publication Year.
I will purchase the same as soon as i get this information.

The links were really helpful to get a clear picture for SCJP 1.5, will visit these as and when required.

Thanks for all the help provided.

I think that was the time when the book was released.

but i dont think the editions/reprints would matter...you can grab the one available at you nearest book shop

Hey Veer,

As long as you get the Java 5 Study Guide you'll be fine - the later printings might have a few errors fixed, but there's no new content, and the list of errors is available here at JavaRanch.

good luck!

Bert
