I did not have any experience in java before I attempted SCJP. In a way I learned java by preparing for SCJP. SCJP, in my opinion, is beginner level. Get a good book on SCJP and it will inform you of all the pitfalls you may want to know. I personally like the book by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. And participating in forum discussions is another good way.

Seeing the journey ahead...SCWCD, SCBCD,..and other higher certifications, i suggest that SCJP should be given when you are on verge of completing your studies and are entering into the corporate world. [ July 08, 2008: Message edited by: Saurabh Patil ]
