If you are looking for a job as a junior Java programmer, then it's good to be SCJP certified, because it shows that you know Java.

awesome. as a college student, this was the answer i've been searching for. i just don't like to waste time studying for something people think may go unnoticed in a job interview. I also love java so the extra knowledge feels rewarding.

Depends on the market you are in. However a certification never does you bad, unless you pass it by cheating.
