You can go for any of them. Whichever you choose, read the latest version.
Although you don't need to worry. There are many books that update you on new features on different versions of Java. One of them is java 1.5 tiger, a developer's notebook. You can read that after reading your 1.4 book.
I would suggest this book to you: Thinking in Java 4th Edition - Bruce Eckel This is an amazing book if you are coming from a C++ background and although this is very lengthy, you will learn A LOT, the design issues, why java is coded a certain way and many concepts which even experienced java programmers are unaware of. I dont know whether there is no book better than this for beginners with C++ knowledge.
