Notice the article said Java programmers aren't in demand right now. Also, it said technical support people were in demand, as well as A-level engineers. So for middle of the pack recent grads specializing in Java, it sucks still.

I seriously doubt the author of the article understands what he wrote. I think he, like so many HR managers (and that may be the source of his problem), is confusing the term "java programmer" with dot-commer. There are plenty of Java programmers who never build web sties, but instead desktop or backend systems. I'm still seeing demand in that area; just not for e-commerce web sites. (Also in most companes I know, project managers get cut before programmers.) --Mark
