Hi Mathias
If your'e doing com why not servlets/jsp? - working towards the web component qualification to reinforce your learning. The basic ideas remain the same across platforms and its not such a quantum leap as opposed to diving in to full on Java app development. Also this may give you some justification to be doing them at work (greater functionality, platform independance etc - I'm not sure of those really but they may give some avenues to explore in finding a reason for the powers that be )
just my 2p...

Hello, Mathias. If you're not coding in Java and you really want to then I would suggest possible working on some Java projects outside of work. Maybe, coming up with some ideas were you can develop some applications on your own or maybe you could locate some open source development. I apologize, however, I don't think this is the appropriate forum for these kind of questions.

If your work leaves you with too little spare time, try developing the same applications you have done at work using Java technologies. This way you only have to spend time remmembering the language, not thinking about how to put together an application.
Either way, that's the best bet: sit down and code an app.

Best,

Thank you all for your responses. I'm afraid is not that simple. My company does not believe in java techology or rather , the believe in it but the demand for java soulotions is rare or in your case... none! The kind of things I'll use com to, is mail sending , translation tools etc. It's not the kind of things you do after working 8 - 18.00 ! Or is it?

To be really frank about it, the way things are going in the software industry, be glad you have a job at all.
