i am starting the tutorial from java.sun.com, and thinking about how much of my limited time to devote to java 3d. i am wondering if anyone knows if java 3d can be used with models created in other apps, such as 3d studio max, lightwave, or other programs. i would like to be able to manipulate a model created in other programs in the java virtual universe. any help would be appreciated.

Eric, I have just started the same as you and I found the answer to your question. YES!!! Exciting huh. They are called Loaders. Here is a link to a Winderful PDF (7 chapters worth). You can download them if you want. Chapter 3 starts off talking about Loaders. Good Luck.

And hey, if you get something cool developed, let me know!
