This week's book giveaway is in the Agile and other Processes forum. We're giving away four copies of The Mikado Method and have Ola Ellnestam and Daniel Brolund on-line! See this thread for details.
Hi I have to write a piece of software taking over an InputStream from a modem connected to the parallel port. In this stream, keys toggled on the (remote) telephone have to be detected, like "if you want english instructions please press number 5" etc. Is there an Java API supporting this scenario? Thanx for your help!

The last time I did anything like that was years ago. We had to use a specialized hardware interface that could "speak" recorded audio messages to the phone and detect touchtone responses. Your ordinary modem can't do that sort of thing so you better investigate the hardware first - you might find one with Java compatible driver software. I would be interested in what you find. Bill

Hi William The Java Voice API (jtapi1.3) provides several methods for applications to detect and generate DTMF-tones on the telephone line. Comprehensible code-snippets are available on java Sun This should do it... . Greetings, Liza
